Even my 11 year old knows that this is not cool. It bothers her to see kids behaving in this way, and she always asks “why don’t those parents set any limits?” or (my favorite) if they just bark and then ignore again she’ll tell me, “that mom/dad has no follow-through!”

The best posted sign I’ve seen is “UNATTENDED CHILDREN WILL BE GIVEN AN ESPRESSO & A FREE PUPPY”

You should spend a day at Samy’s. It’s amazing how many parents tune-out to what their child is up to. I’m seriously considering putting up a sign that “all children left unattended will be fed to the lions”.

No this is not o.k. and you know this because of the way you were raised. You were never out of sight or out of mind with me. Grandma actually stopped shopping once to buy a leash and put you on it when you were two years old. Nancy’s right you will make a great dad and I hope soon.

To be fair, the pot didn’t get broken (as far as I saw) but it could’ve been. And especially the mug and cupboard doors.

That kind of inattentiveness really annoys me, too. The kid could have gotten hurt.then the parent would have gone nuts blaming everyone but themselves! I was one of those parents people laugh at, with my kids either on a “leash” or in a shopping cart…I didn’t care…I KNEW what my kids were doing, and what they were capable of doing if left unattended! You’d make a great father, David.

No that is not ok. You have to teach a little child that in public they need to stay close and do not touch other people’s belongings. Now in the situation of a pot that belongs to a coffee shop, me being a mother would feel obligated to pay for the broken moka. I see this all the time with parents, they just let the kid do whatever. I feel that when we are out I am constantly teaching my son manners and how to be courteous.
